Kalbi
Kalbi
Meat me in paradise
I currently live in an apartment and do not own a grill. As such, this recipe provides instructions for oven-cooked kalbi. If I have a grill in the near future, I will update this recipe to include grilling instructions as well!

Ingredients
2 lbs beef short ribs
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup water
1/8 cup mirin
1/2 yellow onion, sliced 1" long
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
2 stalks green onion (separate the greens from whites)
Instructions
- Rub an even coat of brown sugar on the ribs
- In a bowl, combine brown sugar, soy sauce, water, onions, mirin, garlic, sesame oil, black pepper, and the whites of the green onions. Stir until brown sugar is dissolved.
- Place the beef in a flat container and add marinade into the container.
- Let the meat marinate for at least 4 hours (some recipes recommend overnight marination), flipping the meat several times.
- Preheat the oven at 375 degrees
- Remove the rib and remove any excess marinade.
- Place the ribs (and the yellow onions if you prefer) on a baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes. Flip the ribs halfway.
- Turn the broiler on and cook for 5 minutes.
- Remove from oven and garnish with green onions
